2018 . . . . full of surprises . . . .

and totally in love with the poems of Mary Oliver

“You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting –
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.”

Online portrait course in acrylics by Chantel Lynn Barber

My first assignment for Chantel Lynn Barber's online course.

A huge learning experience. Very happy and excited for the privilege to do the course.
Chantel gives valuable comments and critique.

A first in acrylics for me.
Think I started off too dark?
No drawing. Attention on shapes and colour. This is a colour study.

Thanks Chantel for your comments and critique. Think I must do another study after a few days. Hopefully it is better than this one.

"Acrylic does dry darker and it is easy to start off too dark. I find that beginning with the middle values and then working in to the dark and light value makes it much easier to keep the darks from getting too dark.
You have lovely colors in her lips and pretty blue tones in her hair. Nice job!
The warm darks are missing in her hair, which would create a wonderful contrast with the blues in her hair.
She does have orange tones in her face, and you have captured those, but you are missing the warm pinks that soften all the orange tones. It is a lot to think about, but the good news is it gets easier with practice :)"

I love Chantel's work, specially the mosaic effect she so beautifully conveys in her paintings.

Hallo Autumn - 2016

Vakansiedae is wonderlik om agtergeblewe take uit te sorteer soos kaste regpak, broodbak, stukkende klere lap en stop, en so meer.

apples are not only for eating and keeping the doctor away

beetroot is not limited to salad

lize cut an apple swan befor she savoured the apple

i wanted to make beetroot chips as a snack to ordinary potato chips but was not very successful. it was not crisp as i would have liked it, instead was rewarded with a beautiful paper on which i placed the chips to dry out.

Botanical water colour workshop

Herfswind draai . .

Father's day

Father's day started off with a healthy breakfast. As it is a windy rainy day we had breakfast before the fireplace. Lize made the fire and breakfast while I attended to the animals and  Claude wake up to ease into the day in comfort.

After breakfast I started on a hoody for Lize. About a month ago she asked me to make her one. She ordered a navy one and a grey one. Yesterday we drove to Somerset West to buy some fabric. As we drove back we took a picture of the sunset. It was a beautiful day.

Garden therapy

All a teenager (girl) sometimes need is some garden therapy to discover some things of herself and life around her. It is a sunny winter morning with an icey edge, no running water and the living is easy.

Snippets of my winter garden

Van my lawwe bosgedig.

home made quince jelly

I am not a cook - I make simple, easy, healthy food for everyday living.
I am not a baker - do not bake cake, cookies or pudding -- it's not my forte.
But once in a while I make something out of the orfinary.

Sister in law gave me a basket filled with freshly picked quinces. I made it into quince jelly . . . beautiful colour, delicious taste and lovely to look at.

Hou sap eenkant, skep pulp terug in pot
Voeg 1.25 liter water by en prut vir 30 minute

Kook nou vinnig (ongeveer 1 uur)
